These days, everybody is talking about the, so much awaited, next-gen console: CODENAME Playstation 5. Many articles and videos are out there, talking about what the Playstation 5 may or may not be. This article presents you the top 6 facts and rumours about the next-gen beast.
1/ Potential Playstation 5 or PS5 Development Kit, as imagined by LetsGoDigital
LetsGoDigital published 3D renders illustrating what it supposed to be the awaited Playstation 5, or the PS5 Development Kit. The illustrations were based on an intercepted patent that Sony has filed with a patent agency in Brazil.
The revealing publication ignited speculation fire on the internet. What led to a Tweet from game developer Matthew Scott, linking the pictures with the PS5 Dev Kit, and that the company where he works already has many copies.
Matthew’s Twitter account was deleted only a few hours after his Tweet, certainly due to an applied pressure by Sony. Cases like this are often related to some sensitive information violation rule.
2/ A powerful 8-core AMD CPU and GPU
Playstation 5 will come with an 8-core AMD Ryzen processor, with a GPU and AMD Navi architecture that supports ray tracing, an advanced technology that simulates sunlight. The result, a huge improvement in gaming visuals and more realism even in real-time rendering.
This powerful hardware will allow having complex interactions in 3D environments, simulating what is, until the day, exclusively provided by high-end gaming PCs.
3/ The no-load time theory
This is one of the key features of the awaited Playstation 5. Sony will replace HDD drives on the current-gen consoles with an SSD one.
By switching to SSD, the loading times can be reduced by, up to, 19 times! In practice, this means that what currently takes 10 seconds to load on the PS4, will take only 0.5 seconds on the PS5.
4/ Backwards compatibility with PS4 games
We were all excited to hear that the Playstation 5 will have backwards compatibilities. In other words, fans can continue playing the current Playstation 4 games on the next-gen console.
5/ 8K TV support
Reportedly, the Playstation 4 will come with 8K TV support, this will provide far more detailed textures and much larger ones at that.
6/ Potential price of the next-gen console
No one can predict the exact price of the Playstation 5. The best guess is to analyse the pricing pattern of the previous consoles.
Certainly, the SSD drives are more expensive than HDDs, we can safely assume that the release price of the PS5 will be higher than the previous console.
Consequently, as Sony released the PS4 pro about three years ago, with a retail price of 400$. So it seems likely that the Sony Playstation 5 price will be around 500$, give or take 50$.
